About The District

The Whidbey Island Conservation District is a political sub-division of state government.  We have been working with farmers, landowners, and local partners to preserve natural resources on Whidbey Island since 1967.  District boundaries include all of Whidbey Island.  Camano Island residents petitioned to be served by the Snohomish Conservation District in 1941 before WICD was formed, and continue to be served by the Snohomish CD.

Mission Statement
The Whidbey Island Conservation District serves residents of Whidbey Island in conserving natural resources through educational outreach as well as technical and financial assistance to provide a healthy environment for present and future generations.

Who We Are

The oversight body for the Whidbey Island Conservation District is a five-member, volunteer Board of Supervisors, made up of local farmers, landowners, and professionals.  The WICD staff is a small but effective group.  Our full-time staff include our District Manager, a Natural Resource Planner, and a Public Information and Resource Planner.  Our part-time staff consists of a Farm and Forest Planner, a Farm Planner, an Office Manager, and a Program Support staff. We are generally open 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, but occasionally staff are out in the field.

Board Meetings

Board meetings are generally held on the fourth Thursday of every month at 10:00 AM in the conference room of the District office in Coupeville. Check the District Business section below for changes in this schedule or for cancellations.  Board meetings are open to the public.

Special Assessment

On November 25, 2009, Island County Commissioners approved a special assessment to Island County landowners which began in 2010. The assessment provides stable funding for conservation programs on Whidbey and Camano Islands. For more details about the assessment, visit our Assessment page.

WICD Strategic Planning
